Glenn Powell

Glenn Powell, 92, of Amidon, ND, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at the Southwest Healthcare Hospital in Bowman.

Funeral Services for Glenn will be on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pierce Congregational Church, rural Scranton, ND. Pastor Mary Wiggins will officiate with burial to follow in the Pierce Congregational Church Cemetery. Visitation will on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 from 10a.m. to 9 p.m.   The family will be present from 5-8 at the Funeral Home Chapel.

On a blizzard-like morning of May 8, 1927 Glenn Eldon Powell was born to Lloyd and Addie Byers Powell. He was born at the Powell Homestead in Slope County and lived there for the last 70 years. On a blizzard-like evening of October 9, 2019 he passed away at the Southwest Healthcare Hospital in Bowman.

Glenn was a lifetime member of the Pierce United Church of Christ. He served as a trustee for the church for years. He attended school at Conner Township School, Hume Township School and Woodbury School north of Scranton.

Glenn married Marlene Fresonke on June 25, 1950. She was his life partner and his farming partner for nearly 70 years. Together they had four boys who helped develop their farming operations into what it is today.

While Glenn’s first passion was farming, he also was part of Powell Brothers Construction Company for a number of years building dams, waterways and roads with his brother Tom. He was part owner of Scranton Grain. He was a Hume Township Board Member and treasurer since 1956. He was also a staunch supporter of the School of Promise.

Glenn will be greatly missed by his wife Marlene, sons; Myles and his children, Shannon, Ryan and Glendon; Dale (Pat) and children; Christina, Mark (Shannon) and Jonathan (Ashley) ; Jeff (Sue); and Jim (Wanda) and children; Amber (Joshua) Umbreit, Josh (Gene Anne), Jordan, Ryan (Savanna) Stroh, Sara Stroh.

Missing their great grandpa are Elizabeth and Grayson Powell, Alexis and Shawn Powell, Emma, Addie and JJ Umbreit, Keiren Powell and Kip Stroh.

Remembering their brother are Glenn’s siblings; Anita Powell Jacobs, Tom (Eileen) Powell, Faye Powell Reile and Frank (Lori) Powell. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Scott and Curt Jacobs, Janell and Dan Powell, Jill Looper, Mike and Matt Powell, and Allen Reile. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Fritz and Sally Fresonke and their children; Dean Fresonke, Colleen Livingston, Debra McDonough and Janell Upton and sister-in-law Ellen Murphy and her children; Garek and Drew Murphy.
