One of Bowman’s local dental hygienists was recently given the Distinguished Service Award by the North Dakota Dental Hygienists Association.

Staff Report

Prairie Dental hygienist Dana Schmit was nominated for her many years of service to dental hygiene and to the association itself. Having been a member of the NDDHA since 2007, she has held many positions and been a part of multiple committees with the association.

She started out as treasurer of the association in 2009. She did not hold a position in 2008 but returned in 2009 as President-elect. She was President and past President as she finished her term.

She again ran for another term as President, a position she holds currently with the association.

Schmit has spent time on committees including local planning, nomination, and legislative. During her run on the legislative committee, she was called to testify at the North Dakota state legislature, representing the North Dakota Dental Hygienists.

Schmit has worked with Dr. Pat Kelly and Dr. Jen Sarsland at Prairie Dental for eight years.

“Dana is a great asset to our team. She is very friendly and kind to our patients,” Sarsland said. “[She] is also great at keeping up with the latest in continuing education.”

Nominations for this award were submitted to the North Dakota Dental Hygienists Association by fellow hygienists around the state.
