Donald T. Swenson went home to be with his Lord on June 9, 2019.
Born May 5, 1936 in Rhame, North Dakota to Tom and Olga Swenson.
After attending Crawford, Marmarth and Rhame schools, he received his Bachelor’s Degree with Honors from Dickinson State College in 1963. He taught mathematics in high school for three years, after which he attended the University of North Dakota where he earned a Masters Degree in Accounting.
After earning his CPA designation, Don moved to Rapid City to begin a 25- year career teaching accounting at the National College (now National American University).
He served for several years in the US Air Force Reserves.
Having spent many years building a log home in the Black Hills, his proudest achievement however, was his marriage to his sweetheart, Isabelle Holt in 1972. They operated tourist and lodging businesses in the Black Hills. In 1996 they moved to his father’s homestead in North Dakota. They both enjoyed the farm more than any other endeavor.
He had a strong Christian faith and an avid passion for learning and educating himself and others. Education reform was important to him, as was the protection of the US Constitution.
Forever grateful to God for His presence in his and his wife’s lives. One of his favorite Bible verses is Acts 17:28: “For in him we live and move and have our being.”
Preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his brothers, Joel Swenson and Perry and Bill Thorne.
Survived by his sister-in-law, Elvera Thorne, niece Jan Thorne Mason (her sons Brian and Jeff), and nephews Ron and Todd Thorne.
