Bulldogs capture SW Region Title

The Bowman County Bulldogs captured their first ever Southwest Regional title on Friday at Reinhiller Field, and while that day will be remembered by the bulldogs for a long time, the day in itself may go down in infamy for the entire region.  The forecasters were spot on; low 40’s, 20 mph winds, and relentless rain welcomed the 12 teams in the southwest region.  NDHSAA bylaws meant that the meet would be run in those conditions, as so it did.

While conditions precluded some athletes from participating in the meet, the bulldogs used a steady dose of individual regional champions, and plenty of depth to bury the competition.  At the end of the day, the bulldogs bested runner-up Beulah by 95 points.

In the field events, the bulldogs showed their power as Moritz Melzer tossed the discus 131’1” to claim the region title.  The bulldogs were not done in the throws, as the Jacob Svihovec began a busy day winning the region title with a toss of 134’8”.  Svihovec followed up that toss with a leap of 20’10” in the long jump claiming his 2nd region title of the day.  The dominance in the jumps continued as Brian Anaya leaped 40’0” to win the triple jump.

On the track, Brian Miller powered through the distance events as he was a double winner claiming the top spot in the 800m and 1600m run.

Region meet qualifications mean that the top three placers in each event will move on to the state meet.  The bulldogs used this format to qualify 11 more individuals to the state meet.

• Adam Powell – Triple Jump – 2nd

• Teigen Marmon – High Jump – 3rd

• Jacob Svihovec – Javelin (1st), 110H (2nd)

• Brendon Rasmussen – Shot Put (3rd)

• Brian Miller – 800m Run (1st), 1600m Run (1st)

• Alex Madrigal – 1600m Run – 2nd

• Corban Massey – Pole Vault – 1st

• Matthew Osendorf – Pole Vault – 2nd
