Shirley Jensen, 83, of Bowman, ND, passed away on May 3, 2019 at the Fallon County Medical Center in Baker, MT.
Funeral Services for Shirley will be on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bowman Lutheran Church. Pastor Chuck Johnson will officiate with burial to follow in the Bowman Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, May 5, 2019 from 10-9 at the Krebsbach and Kulseth Funeral Home Chapel in Bowman.
Shirley Ann Jensen was born on April 7, 1936 at the home of her grandparents in Cash Township, Slope County. Her parents were Jens and Lyla (Olson) Jensen. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church by Rev. Normann on June 14, 1936. Shirley attended Star Country School through eighth grade and graduated from Bowman High School in 1954. She graduated from Dickinson State College with a Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Library Science. After high school, Shirley worked for Bowman-Slope Rural telephone Cooperative for 2 years. For 22 years, Shirley taught at the Grand River, Star, Cottage and Conner rural schools. After retiring from teaching, she was the Librarian at the Clara Lincoln Phelan Memorial Library for 19 years. In addition to that she drove for the Finder taking the paper to Mandan and later to Sturgis to be printed. Shirley also put in many hours doing the summer fallowing on the farm. Shirley enjoyed reading, sewing, painting, counted cross-stitch and crocheting. Her Rheumatoid Arthritis prevented her from continuing most of her hobbies.
She was a member of the Bowman Lutheran Church, local teacher’s organizations and PSI Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Shirley is survived by her sister Lois (Warren) Anderson, aunt Adele Sander and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jens and Lyla Jensen, grandparents; Andrew and Inga Jensen and John and Bertha Olson, aunts, uncles and several cousins.
