A bill that would have put the whole of North Dakota into Central Standard Time failed in the House Wednesday, Feb. 20, by a vote of 81-11. Debate on the floor centered around whether this was an issue of local control or if it was in the interest of the state to standardize the time zone within its borders. Rep Mike Lefor, R- Dickinson, stood up in “strong opposition” to the bill. “If I had primed a bill in January that would put all of North Dakota on Mountain Time, what would your knee-jerk reaction be?” Lefor said. “Now let’s flip the tables and I’ll welcome you to southwestern North Dakota. That’s exactly how we feel.”
