Bowman Community Chorus distributes funds

The steering committee of the Bowman Community Chorus recently met to distribute funds to various area community entities.

By Staff Report

The funds were from the very generous free will offerings at the two Christmas concerts and from very generous donations from many area businesses and sales of DVDs of the concert.  This funding helps the chorus buy new music each year and support the area school music programs.  This area has always been very supportive of the chorus during its 60 year history of doing Christmas concerts and at various other times of the year.

It has been a long time goal of the chorus to promote music in the area high schools and have always had students from the schools performing with them.  This year the Bowman County High School, Scranton High School, and Harding County High School music departments received funding to help with keeping their departments going strong. It is hoped that these funds can help pay for part of summer music camp scholarships and Northern Ambassadors of Music students who will be going to Europe again this summer.

In addition to these funding areas the Chorus also gave funds to the Bowman Dollars for Scholars for their help with the lunches after each concert for many years and to the Bowman Lutheran Church for allowing us to perform there for so many years.  The chorus thanks the Bowman County High school for letting us use the music department for rehearsals through all the years.

The Bowman Community Chorus again has a music scholarship available to a full time college student entering at least their sophomore year enrolled in a musical program, either in performing arts or music education.  Applicants should have a history of musical performance and community volunteerism.  The applicant must be a graduate of Bowman County High School, Scranton High School, or Harding County High School.   This scholarship if offered annually and could be up to $500.00 if funding is available.  It is a onetime award and the chorus is proud to have been able to give it to three area students in the past.  Guidance counselors at the three area schools have information about how to apply for it.  Applications must be filled out and returned by April 1st of the current year.
