Vernice Martin, 69, of Marmarth, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019 at Sanford Health Hospital in Bismarck. In accordance to Vernice’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Vernice’s life will be held at a later date.
Vernice was born to Ervin and Agnes Bauer on March 19, 1949 in Hazen, N.D. She was united in marriage to Jim Martin on March 6, 1971. To this union four children were born. Vernice owned and operated the Marmarth Cafe and Mini Store in Marmarth for 18 years, serving delicious food along with great hospitality. On Dec. 12, 2018, she was diagnosed with glioblastoma (cancerous brain tumor). She fought a very hard and courageous battle up to the very end.
Vernice is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jim Martin – her children, Tina (Clyde) Crawford and grandson Cayson; Jeff (Jackie) Martin and grandchildren Bryten, Tayvia and Rylan; Vernon Martin; Sarah Martin and grandson Linkyn – her siblings Debbie (Dave) Helland; Gary (Julie) Bauer; Roland Bauer – and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes and Ervin Bauer; one granddaughter, Kaylee Martin; two nephews, Eric Helland and Shawn Bauer.
