Esther Freitag, 96, of Bowman, ND, passed away on November 11, 2018 at the Southwest Healthcare Long Term Center in Bowman.
Funeral Services for Esther will be on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bowman Assembly of God Church. Pastor Larry Freitag and Pastor Ed Kvaale will officiate with burial to follow in the Bowman Cemetery.
Esther was born on September 15, 1922 to John and Adelheid Moor at her parent’s home. She was raised on the homestead north of Buffalo Springs, North Dakota and received her education at Stillwater country school. She also attended three years of high school and was an active member of the gymnastics team.
She was married to Marlin Freitag in Scranton, North Dakota on August 30, 1942. Marlin was inducted into the Army on December 26, 1941. They moved to El Paso, Texas while Marlin was in training and then she moved back to her parent’s farm while he served overseas.
Esther purchased property 9 miles northeast of Bowman while her husband was in the war. When he was discharged, they moved to this farm and operated it until 1988. She worked beside her husband in the operation of the farm and raised a family of five children. Esther was a hard worker and expected the same from her kids. She loved gardening, canning, embroidering, and visiting friends and family.
She had a strong personal faith in Jesus whom she accepted as her personal Savior while living in El Paso. She was an active charter member of the Bowman Assembly of God Church. Esther spent time daily reading the Bible and praying.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, John and Adelheid Moor, her husband, Marlin Freitag, her daughter, Carol (Jonathan) Biffert, her son, Leon (Dianne) Freitag, two sisters, Elna and Edna Narum, and one brother, Willard Moor. She is survived by one son, Larry (Dianne) Freitag, Eden Prairie, MN, two daughters, Bonnie (Chuck) Boreson, Tucson, AZ, and Melody (Jim) Hitchcock, Aurora, CO. She has sixteen grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 8 step great grandchildren, and one great, great granddaughter.
