John was born in 1925, in Troy, S.D. His earliest memories are doing chores with his brother Joe; such as milking cows and riding Shetland ponies 2 miles to Hart School until eighth grade graduation. Upon graduation John went to work, at 15 years of age, driving truck for his brother Joe and then working construction until he married Geneva Hawk in 1944. At that time they ran the Texaco Bulk Station in Bowman. Shortly after he bought his first trucks and began a long trucking career hauling grain for area farmers. This business grew into one that owned 18 wheelers and hauled cattle, lumber, hay, whatever the farmers need all over the United States. In 1989, Johnny sold the trucking company and purchased school busses which he operated for the next 5 years. Geneva was a substitute school bus driver and always loved the opportunity to visit with the kids. Johnny continued to work for area farmers and driving semi trucks till 83 yrs of age. Johnny and Geneva were married 70 years on April 29, 2014. This occasion was celebrated with a wonderful gathering of family and friends who traveled for many miles to be with them, and honor their commitment of Christian’s love they exemplified to each other. They had a wonderful life and were blessed to raise four children, and now have 7 grand children, 5 great grand children. Geneva passed from this world of August 20, 2014. Johnny has enjoyed being a member of the Assembly of God Church for 60 years, working as a member of the township board and living and raising his family in the Bowman area. John moved to Arizona to live with Kay and Lonnie in 2015. In August of 2018 while on vacation, Johnny got ill and was in the Bismarck Hospital until his passing to his glory land.
