Bowman County hosted the Early Bird meet Thursday, Aug. 30, at Sweetwater Golf Course on a beautiful late summer morning. The cool morning, calm breezes, and a competitive field set the day into motion.  And as the dust settled, the bulldogs brought home five top 10 placers.

In the varsity Girls division, Alexius Miller and Paysha Rex led the way in 5th and 8th place respectively.  Abigail Bartholomay finished in 16th place, while Vanessa Fischer took 24th.  Jocelyn Kulseth rounded out the scoring for the bulldogs in 38th place.

As a team, the bulldogs earned a 2nd place finish behind team champion Williston High School.

In the JV girls division, Kenley Bowman continues her impressive start as she crossed the finish line in 5th place.  Alexia Reisenauer (14th), McKaylee Kalstrom (22nd), Kaylee Kinsey (30th), and Becki Fuchs (33rd) rounded out the scoring for the bulldogs. The JV ladies also finished in the runner-up position to Williston.

“It was a great day for our girls team, we ran alright up front, but more importantly we learned a lot about our team today,” Bulldogs Head Coach Jonathan Jahner said. “We can start to see where our depth is coming from and how we have to develop it.”

On the boys side, a similar theme emerged.  Strong runs up front from Brian Miller and Camden Wokal led the way, and the depth of the team has begun to take shape as Austin Wanner, Ethan Fischer, and Karsen Kulseth rounded out the scoring.

“As impressive as our top 5 runners looked, we have room for improvement, and we saw a lot of really good things form our 6-10 runners,” Jahner said.

Developing the depth for the Dawgs was Noah Wokal with an impressive 5k run in the varsity division.

In the JV division, the depth of the Dawgs has taken shape. A Mix of newcomers and veterans have the bulldogs building confidence in the boys squad.  Aidan Thompson led the way with a 5th place finish, while Caleb Srasland (7th), and Eli Heyen (9th), all earned top 10 finishes.  Rounding out the scoring for the JV boys was Kalorada Eagon (16th), and Brady Hendrickson (20th).  The bulldogs continued development of depth in the JV division with Ben Knopp, Levi Kelly, Luke Fischer, Kevin Fischer, and Dylan Kalstrom all turning in improved times.

The bulldogs will be back in action twice this week as they will travel south on Thursday to battle in Belle Fourche, and then off to Mandan on Saturday for a large West Dakota test.

“On behalf of Bowman County Public Schools and the Bowman County XC team, we would like to thank Sweetwater Golf Course for their awesome hospitality,” Jahner said. “It is a pleasure to host meets here in town, and we thank the golf course for allowing us to make it happen.”
