Bowman Community Chorus distributes funds from Christmas concert

At a meeting of the Bowman Community Chorus Scholarship Committee funding from the generous free will offerings from the Christmas 2014 concert were distributed to music departments of the Bowman County High School, Scranton High School and Harding County High School. Three very generous donations from Continental Resources and Slope Electric Cooperative with matching funds from Basin Electric Power Cooperative helped to make Northern Ambassadors of Music students also received funding for their upcoming trip to Europe this summer. For allowing us to perform there for so many years the Bowman Lutheran Church also received a donation and Bowman Dollars for Scholars for their help every year with the lunches at the concerts also were included in the funding.

The Bowman Community Chorus is again offering a music scholarship to a full time college student entering at least their sophomore year and enrolled in a musical program, either in performing arts or music education. Applicants should have a history of musical performance and community volunteerism. The applicant must be a graduate of Bowman County High School, Scranton High School or Harding County High School. This scholarship is offered annually if there are applicants and the amount could be up to $500 depending on funds available. It is a onetime award to the recipient. Details of the college scholarship can be obtained by writing the Bowman Community Chorus at 14902 86th St. SW, or by calling 701-523-5426. Applications must be filled out and returned by March 15, 2015.

Area businesses have been very supportive of the Chorus for many years with the costs incurred each year and it is because of this support that the Chorus is able to promote music in the surrounding schools with these funding efforts. Thank you to all involved in giving back to the community in this manner.
