Grapplers place 12th at tourney

In the second tournament of the season, Bowman County’s grapplers placed 12th out of 20 teams at the 38th Linton Holiday Wrestling Tournament Friday and Saturday.

In the second tournament of the season, Bowman County’s grapplers placed 12th out of 20 teams at the 38th Linton Holiday Wrestling Tournament Friday and Saturday.

South Border took top team honors with 263 points followed by Oakes (194 points) and Carrington (185 points). Hettinger placed fifth with 126 points.

Talan Nielson led the Bulldogs with 14 team points, competing at the 113-pound division. After receiving a bye in the first round, he pinned Konner Beeter of Bishop Ryan at 1:11 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, he suffered a pin against Josh Schlosser of Linton HMB at 1:37. Nielson battled back in the consolation semis, recording a 5-0 win against Brady Ptacek of Oakes. In the consolation finals, Joel Weber of South Bend won by major decision 11-0.

Troy Steele placed fifth and scored 10.5 points for the Bulldogs at 145. He won his first match with a technical fall 15-0 against Bennie Mygland of Rugby, then lost to Brock Nagel of Linton HMB by major decision 9-1. Steele won his first two matches by single points in consolation action, a 1-0 decision against Logan Lachowitzer of Hettinger and 3-2 against Billy Holtan of Carrington. After losing to Riley Potter of Faulkton by a 12-9 decision, he won the fifth-place match with a 10-6 decision over Alec Maann of Napoleon.

Eight of the Bulldogs’ team points came from senior Eric Bucholz, who captured eighth place. He won his first match with a pin at 1:03 against Damian Bentz of Lamoure. After falling in the quarterfinals by major decision 13-5 to Colton Neumiller of New Salem, Bucholz bounced back to pin Kilo Bowen of Hettinger by pin at :53. In the third round of consolation play, Wyatt Lautt of Harvey won by a 9-2 decision. In the seventh place match, Logan Eisenbeis of Beulah-Hazen won by a 7-6 decision.

At 285, Macormick Stuber placed sixth and earned seven team points. After receiving a first-round bye, he was pinned by Dillon Braaten of South Border at :40. After receiving another bye, he pinned Nathan Erickson of May-Port CG at 4:02. In the consolation semis, he lost to Brandon Ehlers of Hettinger by pin at 2:36. In the fifth-place match, he lost a 5-1 decision to Paul Kurtti of Rolla.

At 195, Nolan Dolyniuk placed seventh and earned five points for the team. After receiving a bye, he fell to Dylan Schnabel of Ellendale-Degeley-Kulm by pin at 2:27. Dolyniuk won his next match, defeating Isaac Ripplinger of Beulah-Hazen 7-2 before losing a 3-1 decision to Dakota Johnson of Bishop Ryan in the third round of consolation. In the seventh-place match, he pinned Kevin Sandgren of Hettinger at 0:53.

At 132, Tel Lardy tallied three team points. After losing his first round match by pin at :21 to Caden Coleman of Oakes, Lardy won his first match in the consolation bracket with a pin at :44 against Jared Olonia of Des Lacs Burlington. In the second round of consolation action, Joel Weber of South Border won by major decision 11-0.

At 106, Tyler Longland lost both of his matches. In Round 1, he was pinned by Braydin Jangula of Napoleon at :56. In the first round of consolation action, he received a bye. Longland was then pinned by Jeremy Leintz of Beulah-Hazen at :48.
