This week marks the last “free week” of Bowman County School children and teachers. Monday, Aug. 13, a teacher in-service is scheduled at Bowman County Schools. It also marks the first day of practice for the cross country and volleyball teams. Thursday, Aug. 16, is the first day of school in Bowman and Rhame.

Scranton School students and teachers will enjoy an extra week of the summer as the first day of school there is slated for Wednesday, Aug. 22. A teacher in-service is scheduled at Scranton Tuesday, Aug. 21 – the same day both the Bowman County and Hettinger-Scranton football teams square off in the gridiron opener for both squads.

Bowman’s first volleyball contest is Thursday, Aug. 23, when the Lady Bulldogs entertain Mott-Regent. Bowman’s cross-country team competes in its first event a day later at the Jamestown Invitational at the Hillcrest Golf Course.

The Hettinger-Scranton volleyball team opens its season in tournament action at the Killdeer Invitational Saturday, Aug. 25. That same day, the two local football teams return to action with Bowman County visiting Divide County and the Nighthawks playing Center-Stanton at Dickinson.
