Todd Wood passed away January 15th, 2013, at Southwest Health Long Term Care Facility after a short but extremely hard fought battle with cancer.

Posted Jan. 25, 2013

Funeral Services will be held Saturday January 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the Bowman Lutheran Church, in Bowman ND, with Pastor Charles Swanson and Pastor Galen Strand officiating, with fellowship to follow.

Todd was born on May 13th, 1959 to Ralph and Phyllis Wood (Galesville, WI) in LaCrosse, WI. It didn’t take long for Ralph and Phyllis to learn that Todd would grow to be one independent, ambitious, and at times reckless young man. Todd grew up the oldest to a family of five, his sisters Nancy and Becky, and brothers Chris and Jason.

While growing up Todd was active in 4-H, he loved to hunt and fish which he would later pass on to his children, and spent hours hanging out at the Frenchville Spur Station. As a teenager Todd’s passion for working on cars would only continue to grow and eventually he made that passion into a career.

After Todd graduated high school he hopped on his motorcycle and rode it all the way to Rhame, N.D. where he began his adult life. After visiting Rhame a couple of times with his family, Todd decided it would be a good place to plant some roots. He started working for Koch Oil Company and enjoyed not only his time with that job, but the people he met as a result of it.

While living and working in Rhame he met Grace, the love of his life, and as he would “joke,” his better half. To this beautiful union, two children were born Shelby (Fargo, ND) and Bryce (Rhame, ND). Todd was a wonderful father and truly had a way with his kids. He taught Shelby how to shoot a bow and arrow by the time she was 5, with Bryce not trailing far behind.

If the weather cooperated you could always catch him and his kids shooting, fishing, working outside, or doing something. To Todd there really was no such thing as downtime…that is unless the Green Bay Packers were playing.

Todd was very active in the public throughout his life in Rhame. He has been a volunteer firefighter with the Rhame Volunteer Fire Dept., an EMT with the Bowman Ambulance Squad, and a First Responder with the Rhame First Response Team. Todd was always around and able to help anyone in need and never said no either.

During Todd’s time with the Bowman Ambulance Squad he also spent time as a trainer and when Todd went to class you were sure that Shelby, the patient/practice dummy, wouldn’t be far behind. When Bryce reached high school and participated in sporting events you were sure to see Todd at all of them.

At Bryce’s football games he would be, what seemed like, the only one there with a warm face due to his beard that everyone knew him by. He loved to watch Bryce compete in football and in wrestling. You could hear his voice booming over the majority of the crowd.

A family man through and through there is nothing that Todd wouldn’t do for anyone around him. He spent the majority of his time in and around a crowd. Todd enjoyed brats, burgers, and beer and wine with the neighbors at what would become known as the “Block Party.” Todd has been an active member of the Rhame Motorsports Club and has spent the past few years building and racing lawn mowers at races in Rhame and various places in South Dakota.

Todd is preceded in death by his grandparents Norman and Evelyn Anderson and Bernard and Margaret Wood, and his mother-in-law Donna Hagen and sister-in-law Jennifer Wood.

Todd is survived by his wife Grace (Rhame, ND), his daughter Shelby (Fargo, ND), and his son Bryce (Rhame, ND). By his parents Ralph and Phyllis Wood, Galesville, WI. By his brothers and sisters, Nancy (Jerry) Richer, Holmen, WI ; Becky (Stubby) Johnson, Ettrick, WI; Chris (Luann) Wood, Ettrick, WI; Jason Wood, Galesville, WI. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Krebsbach and Kulseth Funeral Service, Bowman, N.D., are in charge of arrangements.
