George McLaughlin, 85, of Bowman, ND, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Southwest Healthcare Long Term Center in Bowman.

Funeral Service for George will be at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Bowman Lutheran Church. Pastor Galen Strand and Pastor Charles Swanson will officiate with burial to follow in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND at a time to be set.
George Samuel McLaughlin George Samuel McLaughlin, 85, joined our Heavenly Father on November 17, 2012 at Southwest Healthcare Services in Bowman, ND. Services celebrating George’s life will be held Tuesday, November 20that 9:00 AM (MST) at the Bowman Lutheran Church, with burial to follow at 3:00 PM (CST) at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery at Mandan, ND. The Reverends Galen Strand and Chuck Swanson will officiate. Early services for family and close friends will be held Monday at 7 PM(MST) at Bowman Lutheran Church.
George was born March 12, 1927 at Baker, MT to Alfred and Vitleen Rosary McLaughlin. He, along with his 11 brothers and sisters were raised on the family homestead north of Rhame, ND and attended elementary school at rural school near the family farm. George served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, enlisting 1946 and being honorably discharged in 1952. George was married September 4, 1948 to Margot Ree Moravec at Baker, MT. They lived north of Rhame where they farmed and ranched until 1951 when he was recalled to serve at the Pendleton Marine Training Base (CA) during the Korean Conflict. After George was honorably discharged in 1952 he and Margot returned to North Dakota until 1956 when they moved to Hardin, MT where he worked as a mechanic at the Ford garage. In 1961 they returned to ND where George managed the VVV Ranch south of Beach, ND. George continued to manage farming and ranching operations for others until 1972 when he and Margot purchased the Moravec farm south of Amidon, ND. George farmed and raised cattle there until he retired from agriculture in 2001, leasing the farm to longtime friend and neighbor Charlie Burk until selling the place to Daryle Dennis, another longtime friend and neighbor, in 2010.
Winters and down times often found George working as a carpenter for the Woodley Brothers in Bowman, leaving the fruits of his labors in many of the homes and businesses throughout southwestern North Dakota. George and Margot were blessed with one daughter, Jeanie McLaughlin Beylund (Bill), Magnolia, TX and two sons, Bob McLaughlin (Shirley), Topeka, KS and Ross McLaughlin (Rhonda), Gillette, WY. Margot passed away in September 1995 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. George was remarried in July 2000 to the former Pat Jankowski, blending her family with his adding three daughters, Teri Krieger (Perry), Morehead, MN, Lisa Abrahamson (Pine), Bowman, Joan Woodley (Lane), Bowman, and a son, Tom Jankowski (Erika), Colstrip, MT.
George was a longtime member of the Bowman Lutheran Church, serving on various church boards. After their retirement, George and Pat enjoyed life, sharing many adventures traveling and camping throughout the US. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather – a neighbor’s neighbor and a friend’s friend. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends whom he touched in a warm and gentle manner.
George was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Margot, four sisters, Myrtle, Bernice, Marcella, and Viola and one brother, Eugene.
Survivors include his wife Pat, all of his children, sister Lorena Dieken, Marshall, MN, brothers Robert (Geraldine), Loveland, CO, Clarence (Jean), Green Valley, MN, Larry, Los Angeles, CA, Gerald (Darlene) and Kenny (Rebecca), both of Bowman, along with 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Memorials suggested to the ND VETERANS CEMETERY or the WOUNDED WARRIORS.
