Ferne Ellen (Bagley) Freitag, 83 of Bowman, North Dakota, passed away on Thursday, October 18th, 2012 at the Southwest Healthcare Hospital in Bowman, ND. Funeral Services for Ferne were Monday, October 22, 2012 at 10:00am at the Bowman Lutheran Church. Pastor Galen Strand and Pastor Chuck Swanson officiated with burial that followed in the Bowman Cemetery. There was a Family and Friends service on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 7:00pm at the Bowman Lutheran Church. Ferne Ellen Bagley was born in Gem Township, Bowman County on February 12, 1929, the daughter of Walter and Ellen (Gross) Bagley. She attended Gem School just down the road from her family home. Many stories were told of her life on the farm. As young teenagers she and her sister Joy moved into Bowman and worked at Jo’s Lunch. While working in Bowman she met Donald Freitag. Ferne was united in marriage to Donald Freitag at the Bowman Methodist Church on November 20, 1948. After their marriage they made their home in Bowman where Donald worked at the Farmer’s Union Elevator and Bowman Creamery. In 1959, they moved to the farm in Slope County where they farmed and ranched. Ferne was a very strong woman and worked hard to take care of her family, especially after Donald’s illness in 1964. She loved to garden each year, spending many late nights canning the vegetables from her garden. She was a wonderful cook and baker. Every Sunday was a special day because her family looked forward to dinner at Grandma’s. Her homemade baked buns were a favorite to everyone. She would always tell us that they were flops and didn’t turn out like they were supposed to but they sure tasted good. She was always trying a new recipe. Often when you stopped in you were sent home with a bag of cookies or buns. Ferne was baptized and confirmed at the Bowman Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Bowman Lutheran Church and the Sunshine Homemakers Club. This kind gentle and caring woman was so proud of her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren meant the world to her. She will always live on in our hearts and memories and will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her. May the Lord Bless and keep her. Well done my faithful servant. Survivors include her children, Bill (Betty) Freitag of Dickinson, ND; Twyla (Tom) Burke, Terri (Chuck) Whitney, and Blane (Jackie) Freitag all of Bowman, ND. Her Grandchildren; Suzy (Troy) Anderson, Earl (Theresa) Shear, Donny (Caryn) , Mike (Darcy), Matt (Kasey), John (Amy) and Thomas (finance Emily Feist) Burke, Chad, Jennifer & Brent Whitney, Dustin, Daniel & Sarah Freitag; and her Great-Grandchildren, Timmy Evans, Kellee, Alexius, Alicia & Steven Shear, Kassidy Vine, Brooklyn, & Mikayla Shear, Grady, Emily, Avery, Caden Claire, Hudson, Gabriel & Abigail Burke; sisters, Delores Scally, Lake Mary, FL. and Joy Swanson, Buffalo, WY., brothers, Walter Glen Bagley, Bowman, ND. and Dennis Bagley, Harvey, ND.
