Midseason Report

Brian Miller leads a Bismarck runner to the finish at the Anderson/Stavn Invite at McDowell Dam.

With the completion of this week’s Anderson/Stavn Meet, the bulldogs enter the midseason point with a few questions, and a lot of optimism.  The Dawgs will be off this week as they prepare for the second half of the season.

In familiar fashion Andrew Miller (49th place) led the bulldogs again at the Anderson/Stavn invite, but this time around he had plenty of company.  Freshman Brian Miller finished close behind in 57th.  The one-two punch for the bulldogs propelled them to an 11th place team finish.  While those numbers may seem pedestrian, the Dawgs competed against top 5 team in Class A, as well as the top ranked B team, the New Town Eagles.  Behind Miller, Camden Wokal (81st), Samuel Rodakowski (87th), and Ethan Fischer  (103rd) rounded out the scoring for the bulldogs.  In the JV division Noah Wokal set the pace for the pack of bulldogs.  The Junior high team also found success as Austin Wanner placed 16th out of 130 JH runners.  The boys team was ranked 5th in the latest Class B Coaches Poll.

On the girls side, depth continues to be an issue for the bulldogs, however the dominance of Alexius Miller, and emergence of Abigail Bartholomay are a great place to start.  Miller finished 43rd while Bartholomay placed 55th at the Anderson/Stavn Invite.  Vanessa Fischer rounded out the runners for the varsity girls with an 85th place finish.  The Bulldogs will look to Brenna Wokal and Becki Fuchs to play an important role moving forward.  Wokal and Fuchs have battled all season long as Fuchs (59th) got the upper hand over Wokal (65th) this week.  The search doesn’t stop there, as the Junior high team will be counted on to provide much needed support.  Kaylee Kinsey had a very impressive outing finishing in 72nd place, closely followed by McKaylee Kalstrom in 76th.  Eighth-grader Audrey Lazzara turned in her best performance of the year culminating in an 89th place finish.

The bulldogs will be back in action on Sept. 26 at the Black Sands Invite (Beulah), and follow that up with the Becki Wells invite (Dickinson) on Friday, Sept. 29.  Full results and all meet information can be found at www.bowman.k12.nd.us/crosscountry.
