I took in the elementary football game at Scranton on Sept. 18 featuring Hettinger-Scranton (HS) versus Bowman.  Bowman has had elementary football for a few years while this is the first season for HS.

For The Pioneer

There were two games as the first game had fifth and sixth graders playing and the second game was a shorter contest with the fourth and fifth graders playing each other.

Bowman won the first game 25-8 as Kirk Meschke tallied two touchdowns and Bishop Duffield and Bowden Duffield each had one score.  From what I could tell, Stetson Hintz, Toby Njos and Christian Cummins did well on defense for Bowman.  Noah Njos make a nice defensive play in the second quarter when he broke through the line and intercepted a pitch by the HS quarterback that was meant for a running back.

Maddox Pierce scored the lone score for HS with a short two yard run in the second quarter.  A preceding big play set up that touchdown when a half back pass from Pierce to a wide open Caden Anderson got the ball inside HS’s 15 yard line.  Defensively, I thought Braden Jahner, Pierce, Nicholas Anderson and Blake Larson played well.

Bowman also won the second game with the younger players by a 25-6 score with Jett Ouradnik scoring twice and Taylor Wanner and TJ Andrews each with a touchdown.  Issak Guthrie scored the lone TD for HS and he also was the quarterback.

Author’s Note: I must give a shout out to my ten-year old grandson, Noah Harriman, who plays for Bowman.  In the second game he started at left offensive tackle. I watched him closely when he was lined up on my side of the sidelines and he did well in keeping his man from the ball carrier.
