Bowman XC stays close to home

Last Thursday, the Bulldog cross country team hosted its first of two meets for the 2017 campaign. A beautiful morning on Sweetwater Golf Course set the stage for 10 teams and more than 200 athletes from western North Dakota and eastern Montana.
At the end of the day Dickinson High School claimed titles in both the girls divisions as well as the JV boys, while Williston High School took the varsity boys title. Though the competition was tough, the Bulldogs fared very well, placing third in both varsity divisions, seventh in the JV boys, and fourth in the JV girls.
The boys were led by senior Andrew Miller who placed 11th, who was closely followed by Camden Wokal (14th), Brian Miller (15th), and Austin Wanner (19th). The Bulldogs top four runners finished within a 1:04 seconds of each other. Ethan Fischer rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs with a 31st place finish. The boys team placed third behind Williston and Dickinson. The JV boys were paced by Caleb Sarsland who finished his first race in 22nd place.
The girls team also showed strength up front as Alexius Miller held on to a sixth place finish. She was followed up by Abigail Bartholomay in 17th, Vanessa Fischer in 21st, and Jocelyn Kulseth in 27th. The Bulldogs finished behind Dickinson and Williston in the team scores. In the JV division, Paysha Rex led the way with a 10th place finish.
The Bulldogs will not take much time off as they will be racing this Saturday at the Mandan Kiwanis Meet, and then to Watford City on Tuesday the 12th. Follow all of the Bulldog cross country results on their webpage (www.bowman.k12.nd.us/crosscountry)
