Sunday August 27 was not a day for the faint hearted. The Bowman Lions began the day with a Pancake and Sausage Breakfast to benefit the C.O.R.E. event happening on September 13 for our area High School Freshman. CORE is an acronym for Community Organized Resources for Educating Youth. This program comes to us from South Dakota and co-ordinates the skill sets of our Fire Department, Law Enforcement, as well as our local Health Care Providers. Here in Bowman this effort is being headed up Christine Peterson FNP. It will be a day long event with various different presentations to raise awareness of the problems of impaired driving, seat belt use, and how serious injuries can be life changing events among other things. The Bowman Lions held this fund raiser for the event and will be among other volunteers to help put it on.
After the successful conclusion of the Pancake Breakfast which fed over 200 people, a Scavenger Hunt was organized and held. We had a total of nearly 40 clues this year, but cut the time line down from 4 hours to 2. There were some 14 people who competed for a $250 prize. Mark and Martha Wanner and two of their boys were the overall winners, and most kindly donated $200 back to the Lions. We certainly thank all of you who came to make this such a special event. See you next year.
