STOP THE BLEED and Save a life!

Dr. Mary Aaland, an Associate Professor of Surgery at the UND School of Medicine, and friend of West River Health Services from Fargo, who has herself provided surgery services here and has now helped WRHS acquire a surgeon (Dr. Mathew Hefty), is coming to Hettinger on Saturday, Sept. 9, to give 50 free “Stop The Bleed” kits to area businesses, organizations, farmers/ranchers, schools, families, fire and police departments, etc. She sees the need for these kits in our rural areas and wants Hettinger to be the first place in the state of North Dakota to offer them. There are only two things you, as local citizens, need to do to participate:

WRHS Foundation

1. Sign up for the “Stop The Bleed” event by calling Ted Uecker at the WRHS Foundation at 701-567-3666. It is being held on Saturday, Sept. 9, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., at the NDSU Research and Extension Center Conference Room.

2. Attend the “Stop The Bleed” event on Saturday, Sept. 9, any time from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. There will be a short 30 minute educational video at the beginning of each half hour, followed by a quick 20 minute practical exercise.

The “Stop The Bleed Kits” are valued at $70 each. Special thanks to Dr. Mary Aaland for supplying 50 FREE kits to our community (or a potential total of $3,500!). In addition, she will be here herself to teach the course, as will Shane Holett, Executive Director from the American College of Surgeons Foundation. It will only take about 50 minutes of your day – and this kit could help save a life.

The “Stop The Bleed” Campaign began in October of 2015 to cultivate grassroots efforts encouraging bystanders to become trained, equipped and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. After all, a person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes! No matter how fast professional emergency responders arrive, bystanders or the victims themselves will always be first on the scene.

Please call Ted Uecker at the WRHS Foundation, 701-567-3666, to sign up for this unique opportunity to be prepared at your business, organization, school, farm, home, etc. You never know when you might have to “Stop The Bleed.”
