The Bears went 3-0 and advanced to the first championship game as the only undefeated team in the eight team state tourney at Thompson.  That put them in the driver’s seat as whoever they must play that team would have to beat the Bears twice in the double elimination tourney.  They reached this point by defeating Surrey 11-2, Lidgerwood 5-2 and Nelson County North 9-5.

For The Record

They came into the first championship game in good position as they had their top two pitchers available and Langdon could not use their top two pitchers due to the pitch count rule.  Langdon jumped out with four runs in the top of the first and going into the bottom of the third they held a 5-2 lead.  The Bears bounced back with seven runs in their bottom of the third to take a 9-5 lead.  But Langdon came back in the fourth inning with 12 runs as pitching and errors were the Bears biggest nemesis. Langdon sent 17 batters to the plate with only two or three hits.  Final score was 20-9.

With the loss the “IF” game was scheduled the next day on Aug. 1.  Langdon had one of their top pitchers available in Grant Rumfo and he pitched a two-hitter as Langdon came away a 10-0 winner and Class B Babe Ruth State Champs.  Warrick Dilse had both hits for the Bears.

The Bears can be proud of their season as they finished second in the state.  Hat’s off to KNDC and announcers Jon Kohler and Tony Muggerud for broadcasting the games over the airways and to Nolan Dix and Rob Warbis for coaching the Bears.
