Delores L. Peters, 81, former resident of Bowman, passed away on July 4, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Funeral services will be on July 14, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Bowman Lutheran Church in Bowman. Pastor Mary Wiggins will officiate.
Delores’ ashes will be with her mother in Bowman and her husband, George, at the ND Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.
Delores was born in Zap, N.D., and was a proud resident of this small “Zip to Zap” infamous town. Delores lived in Zap until High School when her family moved to Mandan.
Delores worked in the N.D. Capitol after high school and soon fell for her future husband, George (Dukie) Peters. Delores and George spent a short time in Brockton, Mont. and Fort Yates, N.D. where George began his teaching career.
This quickly took them to Bowman, where they lived out the majority of their lives. They loved Bowman and its residents! Delores was a seamstress, painter, knitter, jewelry maker, and gardener, she loved to be outside. If you do not have drapes in your home, a knit scarf, a pair of earrings or some June berry syrup you probably haven’t lived in Bowman very long.
Delores was always busy, with her hands or in the yard (or at coffee). As one of her grandchildren once said, gramma is a “maker”, and that she was! Delores spent the last year, year and half of her life near her daughter, Trivian, in Colorado Springs.
But truthfully she always wanted to be back in North Dakota. She had a love of travel her entire life, but it was always her opportunities to head off to Medora or some other spot in North Dakota that she loved best.
Our thanks to the entire Bowman community for allowing mom to stay in the town she loved, by providing the support she needed in her last years in Bowman. This would not have been possible in most communities, so thanks! Delores is survived by her kids, Trivian (Brian) Dickard and Lynden (Stacia) Peters; grandkids Jordan, Keenan and Alex. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, James Peters and 17 nieces and nephews. Memorial donations can be made in Delores’ name to The School of Promise.
