This was a different game from their first encounter back on June 22 when Warrick Dilse shut out Bowman 11-0 with a no hitter. Jeran Anderson was the Hettinger-Scranton Bears starting pitcher with Jacob Svihovec starting for Bowman on a warm July 5.
The Bears jumped out to with a quick two runs in the first inning as Dilse led off with a double and later scored on a wild pitch. Anderson, who had earlier walked, was driven in by Brady Dillon’s single. Bo Wilson followed Dillon with a single but Svihovec settled down to strike out the next three hitters.
Bowman took the lead with three runs in their bottom half of the first with only one hit, but costly errors by the Bears defense kept the inning going. Bowman would score only one more run in the next three innings in this five-inning game while, the Bears scored four times. Bowman looked like they may have had a good inning going in the second. With one out they had already scored once and had a runner on second. Svihovec lifted a fly ball near the right field foul line that looked like it was going to drop in for a hit as the runner on second headed for third. But Bears right fielder Gavin Dalley ran the ball down with a nice catch and fired to second base to double up the runner for an inning ending double play.
Going into the bottom of the last inning the Bears had a 6-4 lead and they brought in Dilse to pitch the final inning. He struck out the first batter but the next one smacked a triple and scored on an error. Dilse would go on to walk one more batter but would strike out the next two to preserve the 6-5 win.
Bears pitching would pick up 10 strikeouts while walking four and giving up three hits. Svihovec struck out six while walking only one but gave up nine hits. Dillon would go three-for-three in the hitting department for the Bears and Dilse and Wilson would each have two.
