Reuben E. Pladsen, 89

 

Reuben E. Pladsen, 89, of Bowman, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Southwest Healthcare Long Term Center in Bowman.

Funeral Services for Reuben was on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Bowman Lutheran Church. Pastor Mark Nygard will officiate with burial to follow in the Bowman Cemetery. Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. at the Krebsbach and Kulseth Funeral Home Chapel.

Reuben Everett Pladsen was born at Norem Hospital in Bowman, on Sunday, January 15, 1928 the son of Edward E. and Rosalia (Monson) Pladsen. He joined an older sister with two younger brothers and one kid sister.

He attended eight years of grade school at Medicine Hills No. 2 and graduated from Bowman High School in 1945. Reuben worked for neighboring farmers and custom combined for three years with the Roen Brothers.

He was drafted into the United States Army on Dec. 7, 1951 but active duty was delayed until Jan. 7, 1952 due to the Christmas Holiday. He was sent to Korea on July 4, 1952. He was honorably discharged from Ft. Lewis, Wash., on Oct. 7, 1953.

Reuben and Charlotte Holzman were united in marriage on June 18, 1956 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Scranton. He worked for Farmers Union Oil (Cenex) of Bowman for 39 years. He started hauling fuel, ran the fertilizer plant and then managed for 10 years.

When he retired, the elderly ladies in town missed him filling their cars and washing their windows. He was active in the Bowman Lutheran Church, Frank Gordhamer Post #48, 40 or 8 and Sons of Norway. He also bowled for years, however, when he retired so did his bowling.

Reuben and Charlotte traveled over the years to Canada, Mexico and all over the USA. They also had one trip to Norway on their 40th wedding anniversary.

Reuben is survived by his wife of 61 years, Charlotte; son, Dwight; and two daughters, Dwan (Bruce) Kinney and Thelma DiMattio; brother, Elwin (Mary) Pladsen and sister, Arlene (Darryl) Gatzke. Grandsons Dane and Louis Kinney, granddaughters Dakota and Megan DiMattio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Rosalia, brother, Ronald and sister, Emily (Carroll) Davis, sister-in-law, Doris (Russell) Wischow and brother-in-law, Louis Holzman.

Krebsbach and Kulseth Funeral Services of Bowman in charge of the arrangements.

Jerry West Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 11:00.
