Benz: Hello Bowman

Do you think the pen is mightier than the sword? Personally I’d rather have a giant sharpened piece of steel than a little four inch ball point writing utensil, but I get the metaphor.

The words that are written on these pages can certainly have a profound impact on people, even in a weekly, community-oriented newspaper, like the Pioneer. So with that, I understand the responsibility I now have as the new Editor of this publication.

And with that responsibility comes accountability, for myself and our staff. If I want people to respect the words that I put in this paper, I have to respect what I’m writing. If I put out incorrect information—which I would never knowingly do—call me on it. If I have a name wrong, don’t hesitate to tell me.

This isn’t my paper, it’ the community’s. And though Country Media is the current owner, they may not be in 50 years.

So we are simply stewards of the time.

I have written for this publication for many years, starting out as a sports freelancer in the fall of 2013. I know how much the community cares about the paper, and what that symbiotic relationship stands for.

I don’t plan on taking that for granted.

I hope to continue some great things this paper has installed, and I hope to expand on some new ideas that I hope will invigorate the community.

This is also a good opportunity for some feedback. What do you like? What would you like to see?

I can’t say that I’ll be able to accommodate every suggestion we receive, but we can say that we will be an open ear to what the community wants out of its paper.

Though I’ve lived in Bowman for nearly five years, please come stop by and say hi, introduce yourself and get to know me.

And remember, you may not always like what I report, but I can guarantee that I will strive to get you the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
