A few days of cool wet weather is not only a blessing for the upcoming growing season, but also the Bowman County Track & Field Team. With a warm end to winter and start to spring, the Bulldogs were able to get some early season competition in, see where they are at, and use this time to improve.
Coach Jahner sees last week’s Beach Booster meet as an unofficial end to the “preseason”. “Scheduling wise, this is a great break for us, it’s a time to reflect and refocus on what we need to accomplish.”
Accomplishments were not in short supply at the Beach Booster as the bulldogs captured 12 event championships in route to a girls meet title and boys meet runner-up.
The girls team was led by sophomore standout Meggie Fischer, who captured 4 event titles (100m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles, High Jump, and 4x400m Relay). But there was a lot more to the story for the girls team. The hurdler’s also got great performances from Ellie Stafford in the 300’s and Lindsey Dix in the 100’s. Both girls also contributed in the jumping events as Dix placed runner up in the Long jump, and Stafford runner up in the triple jump, 4th in the high jump.
The sprinters were led by a pair of speedsters as Cassidy Walby and Natalie Kempenich raced to a 1-2 finish in the 200m dash, while finishing in 2nd and 4th respectively in the 100m dash.
The distance runners didn’t get to take the day off, as Alexius Miller raced to an event title in the 800m run. Mikayla and Abigail Bartholomay, and took 2nd and 3rd place honors in the 3200m run.
The boys team showcased a little more diversity than they have become accustomed to seeing so far this season. While the distance runners didn’t disappoint (Alex Madrigal 800m champ, Alex Bartholomay 3200m champ, Boys 4x800m champs, Cole Osendorf, Brayden Miller, Madrigal, Bartholomay), the sprinters and jumpers also got into the action.
Osendorf and Miller finished 1-3 in the 400m dash, and the 4x100m relay team (Mathew Carlson, Adam Powell, Conner Buchholz, and Jason Ortiz) also placed 1st. AS far as the jumpers were concerned, Powell and Brian Anaya both placed in the triple jump, as Corban Massey and Carlson finished 1-2 in the pole vault. Massey concluded his day with places in the 300m and 110m hurdles. Representing the throwers, Austin Richard placed 7th in the discus, while Osendorf placed 2nd in the Javelin.
The Bulldogs will next be in action at the Dacotah Bank Relays in Lemmon, S.D., on Saturday, Apri23rd starting at 10:30 am.
