The races in this year’s election are heating up.

Additional candidates have filed for county commissioner spots over the last week, bringing the total to four.

With three at-large commissioner spots available, the top six vote getters will progress from the June 14 primary to the Nov. 8 general election.

The candidates that have filed as of Wednesday include incumbent Rick Braaten, Margie Russ, Chris Johnson and John McGee.

Jerry Jeffers, county zoning board president, has been circulating his petition but has not yet submitted it to the county auditor.

While he also has yet to submit his petition, Bowman City Commissioner Chuck Whitney told The Pioneer last week that he is currently amassing signatures to be placed on the ballot for the city of Bowman’s mayoral spot.

He would vie against incumbent Lyn James for the spot.

Dan Peterson, Sonia Campbell and Ryan Shear have each submitted their petitions to run for the two other available city commission seats.

Candidates have until April 11 to submit petitions for the ballot.
